Everyone dreams, some more frequently than others, some with more clarity and with vivid emotional experiences, and still others may not recall their dreams at all. Whether you remember your dreams or not, science tells us that everyone experiences the REM stages which are characteristic of the dream state.
The ability to dream and access our subconscious through our Dreams is one of the most powerful means of stimulus that Nature has provided within us and it is very simple yet profound in its meaning if understood correctly.
Your dreams help you understand your goals, ideals or mission in life, and also to connect you with Universal truths and forces which seem to belong to a “Cosmic Consciousness”, where experiences are shared by all.
Through Dreams, Nature provides some of you with prophetic insights in your life or messages for the masses. Your Subconscious mind lets you drift into the dream world to resolve your inner conflicts and anxieties as well as to forget painful and sad memories.
Regardless of how your insecurities camouflage your true desires and intentions through a veil of symbology, the hidden meaning of your dreams can be very clear if you just trust your subconscious, listen to its messages and learn to interpret its silent language.
It is through dreams that we communicate with our loved ones or invade their privacy! Dreams are also the only means for us to communicate with those who have long gone away from us. Through memories, you can remember someone who has left you, but through dreams, you can actually meet them and communicate with all your feelings!
You can imagine the possibilities if you learn to harness the power of dreams. For example, If you are in love with someone but they like someone else, can you go in their dreams and make them love you instead?
Can you bribe someone in their dream?
The possibilities are endless and hopefully interesting enough to keep you dreaming - as we solve some of these mysteries...
Everyone dreams, some more frequently than others, some with more clarity and with vivid emotional experiences, and still others may not recall their dreams at all. Whether you remember your dreams or not, science tells us that everyone experiences the REM stages which are characteristic of the dream state.
The best access to the subconscious is through your dreams because your inhibitions do not block your true intentions or ideals. This is the reason I am writing about dreams before we deal with other aspects of the Subconscious Awareness of Truth.
Although a lot of research has been done on dreams and its interpretation, I am giving you some of my own observations along with an overview of some traditional interpretations. We will also show you how you can use astrology to understand the hidden messages of your subconscious and gain insight in your innermost experiences.
In fact, you can even predict the basic theme of your dreams months in advance!
This is the reason why it is important to let your astrologer know the contents of your recent dreams when you have your transits done because your future experiences can be understood better in light of your dreams.
According to Freud, dreams are the product of an elaborate clash between the unconscious primitive biological urges and the civilizing constraints imposed by society.
Taboos and forbidden impulses are seen through a censored masquerade, which allows us to indulge in unacceptable desires without realizing that it is unacceptable. I believe that his basic premise was correct, but this is only one aspect of dreams.
Not all dreams are wishful thinking or indulging in fantasies to fulfill our repressed desires.
Also, unlike Freud and Jung, I feel that one does not necessarily dream in symbols only to fulfill a forbidden wish past our inner censor’s eye, but because symbology is the language of the subconscious!
Once you can understand what your symbols mean, you will find that they lead you closer to Truth than your conscious reasoning, because there are no insecurities, logic or defense to inhibit and distort the message of your subconscious.
Symbols in Dreams
The meaning of symbols in dreams have been of interest since ancient times, but not all symbols in your dream mean the same to everyone. They may even mean something different at different times of your life. After understanding the general interpretations, you should try to decipher for yourself what different objects, feelings and activities in your dream (water, heights, chasing, falling, birds, flying, stage, feelings of joy, sadness, or meeting someone special) mean to you personally at that particular time in your life.
To interpret a dream properly, you should consider your long-term ideals, the events of the day or the week and what you have been going through recently.
Besides symbology, your emotional reactions are also very important in your dreams. In other words, how you feel towards the other person or in a certain situation is just as important as the activity itself.
Although there are many different categories of dreams, the following are some of the more important types:
Prophetic
Dreaming of apostles or saints or those who have passed away often indicates a prophetic dream, in which your subconscious gives you advice or a message for others. This type of dream is rare and very spiritual and should be discussed only with those who you consider being wise or the elders in the family.
Fulfillment dreams
These dreams allow you to cope with any repressed desires, insecurities, guilt or fear and enable you to realize hopes and wishes that may be unattainable in real life. They may also protect you from escapist tendencies by satisfying your needs at a subconscious level.
Nightmares
Watching horror movies or violence on TV can stimulate the psychotic side of your nature and appear as nightmares in your dreams. Luckily, these are the least of the meaningful dreams. Mars making an aspect to Neptune usually indicates bad reactions, allergies and acting on a wrong intuition or hunch. So anyone with these symptoms will also experience more nightmares.
Warning Signals in Dreams
Your dreams are an excellent indicator of your need to slow down or be careful of your health. When you dream of heights or skyscrapers and cannot see the ground, it may be an indication that you need to strengthen your foundations. Your feelings in these dreams are very important and may completely change the interpretation e.g. do you feel elated or scared by the heights in your dream?
Self Preservation in Dreams
It seems there is a self-protective mechanism within us which originates probably from the Limbic system of the brain and is linked to our survival instinct. In a dream state, this corresponds to waking up just before you hit the bottom or just before someone is about to harm you in some way.
Recurring Dreams
These dreams are very important and need special attention as they suggest reinforcement of a theme that has not yet been resolved.
The stimulus for your dream can be external e.g. TV programs and events of the day, or it could be internal e.g. insecurities, phobias, sadness or an upset stomach. When interpreting your dream, it is important to take all activities and experiences of the day into consideration.
Any Moon/Saturn aspect in a chart, especially 0°, 90° and 180°, inhibits the access to the subconscious and makes it difficult for people to remember their dreams. As it also indicates low blood pressure, being anaemic (low iron), inability to express emotions and always feeling depressed or fatigued and needing more sleep than normal, anyone with these symptoms has to make an extra effort to remember their dreams.
If you remember your dreams, then you can at least know if it is affecting your mood, but if you do not remember them, then you may be upset the next day without being aware that it may be due to your dream! You may also take out your frustrations on others because of a nightmare without realizing it!
Before understanding my astrological method of interpreting dreams, it is important to have some background on the traditional meanings of different symbols in your dream. These may vary to some extent from person to person, but the general meanings remain fairly consistent.
The following is a simple guideline to help you understand some basics of dream analysis, along with my observations.
Angel: Usually a very reassuring dream which occurs when events seem to be fated and beyond one’s control (guidance from heaven). Can symbolize spiritual purity and a turning point in life when one becomes more pious. Often accompanies prophetic dreams and also when there is a concern for lack of spirituality in one’s life. May also represent a parent.
Automobile: Any form of transportation (cars, motorcycles, aeroplanes etc.) usually indicates your need for achievement, progress and action. The dreamer’s role is important e.g. driving suggests control and moving towards a goal or going away from an undesirable situation, and skidding implies losing self-control. Someone stopping you from driving could indicate your anxiety about a person trying to thwart your goals. The type of car can also be significant as it symbolizes your goals e.g. high ambition (fast cars), prestige and status (luxury cars), modest achievement (small cars) or struggles (car does not start or goes very slowly).
Books: A universal symbol of knowledge, understanding and wisdom but a lot depends on the title or the content of the books! Searching for answers, desire for more knowledge or aspiration for power that comes with wisdom (reading), or escaping from current situations to the world of fantasy (fiction or novels).
Falling: Loss of self-control and feeling of helplessness, especially if the ground is too far away and you do not land. May indicate too many responsibilities or debts, so re-evaluate your priorities and reduce your expenses.
Fire: Considered by the ancients as the symbol of passion, all-consuming love and desire. It also depends on the type of fire you dream of i.e. a warm and cosy fireplace (pleasure) or a house burning (new beginnings after events that seem beyond one’s control).
Food: Generally speaking, food represents love, power and strength. It indicates your need to be protected, nurtured and cherished but may also refer to your sensual needs. Whether your needs are being satisfied or not depends on your feeling hungry or satiated in your dream.
Flying: Indicates a need for freedom from all limitations. Generally a positive indicator for achieving success (soaring heights), unless you wanted to land but could not!
Chasing or being chased: The first one usually implies the pursuit of a goal and frustration in attaining it if the dream keeps recurring.
Hands: A lot depends on whether you are shaking hands (new friendship), praying (desire for spiritual assistance) or grasping hands which are slipping away (associated with fear that someone you intensely desire is moving away).
Key: Generally a very positive symbol unless you dream of a key being lost (unsolved problems). Picking up an old key may mean going back to school or starting an unfinished project. Finding a key but not being able to open the door may represent frustration in solving problems and sometimes carries sensual overtones.
Water: Water is taken as the universal symbol of the unconscious and the emotions. Emergence from water is taken to mean some sort of re-birth. I feel that water indicates your emotional life and feelings. The type of water i.e. a lake, stream or the ocean, its depth and the extent to which you get wet, all refer to the degree of your involvement in a relationship.
For example, if you dream of walking through a puddle of water, it may signify a light affair. Going on a boat in the ocean without getting wet may also indicate a casual fling but with someone deep or married. If you jump into the ocean and actually swim, then obviously you are willing to get totally involved. I will let you figure out what it means if you realize that you cannot swim after you have jumped in? And is the other person only playing with your feelings if he lets you panic for a while before saving you?!
Next I will discuss my Astrological Dream Interpretation. This is based on my observation that if your needs are not satisfied during the day, then they are offset through dreams! For example, with Moon in your 2nd house, you have the urge to spend money, and if you did not actually go on a spending spree during the day, then you may dream about it at night! Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could just dream about certain events to offset their harshness in real life?!
