Three Mutable Signs
Planets in Mutable signs make people more flexible in their thinking and adaptable to changes. However, their adaptability can also make them too changeable. All these four signs thrive on changing circumstances and can usually cope with unstable environments quite easily. Depending on the planet involved, they do not experience the same degree of trauma as other signs because of their ability to understand the reasoning behind events.
Too Many Planets in Mutable Signs
People who have many planets in Mutable signs (4 or more planets) are often talented but are interested in too many things and may lack focus. They must learn not to scatter their energies in too many directions and to have a better sense of direction, persistence, concentration and fixidity of purpose. They tend to become easily bored if the situation is not constantly changing or if it becomes stagnant. When they encounter difficulties, they either change direction or “roll with the punches” because they do not like to stick to anything too monotonous.

Even though all Mutable signs are excellent at solving problems, the way they handle a situation corresponds to their Triplicity i.e. Fire, Earth, Air or Water. Here are the four Mutable signs, the Triplicity they belong to and their basic nature:
You can analyze any mutable planet in your chart based on the meaning of the planet and its triplicity. For example, if Venus was in Virgo (an Earth sign), then you will seek longterm friendship in love matters and will be practical in the way you care for others. If Mercury was in Virgo, then you will be understanding and down-to-earth and realistic in your advice.
Similarly, if Mercury was in Sagittarius (Fire sign), you will be very enthusiastic and positive in your “preaching”, but if Venus was in this sign, then love will be an adventure for you and you will be versatile in your taste in all matters pertaining to art and love (many playboys and playgirls have this position!).
Sun in any of these four signs makes people adaptable in their goals and generally gives the ability to be much more flexible in their approach to life. Moon in these signs gives mood swings to some extent and often an active nervous system and weakness in the lung area, especially if Mercury is also in a mutable sign. Mars in a Mutable sign gives very good physical coordination e.g. Jane Fonda has Mars in Pisces (feet) which makes her good in aerobics and ballet. Mercury indicates the way people think and communicate.
When Mercury is in a mutable sign, it gives excellent communication skills and fast reflexes. It makes them very understanding and excellent at any work that requires counseling, psychology and sales. Even if they do not have the academic background, these individuals have a natural ability to understand and solve psychological problems (at least for others!). We often find writers, musicians and artists with Mercury in one of the mutable signs.
Because of their dual nature, individuals with Mercury in a mutable sign can see both sides of an argument or an issue and are excellent arbitrators and natural in communication. They are good at dealing with different type of people because of their flexible and adaptable nature. All Mutable signs are usually very good at putting their knowledge and experience to practical use.
Venus indicates the way people feel and express their love. When Venus is in a mutable sign, it makes one somewhat like an artist who wants to admire every painting! In fact, this Venus position is excellent for all forms of art as well as music as long as the discipline is there. It also helps one get over separations and breakups more easily than other signs.
Gemini: Being an Air sign, Gemini uses humor and words to solve people-oriented problems. They are excellent for communication and sales. Quite often they are versatile in music (which is another form of communication). Their solutions are usually not of lasting quality, but they are good for creating a light-hearted atmosphere. They are good at providing temporary solutions and their emphasis is on moving on to new ones rather than solving one thoroughly. Mercury in Gemini (Air sign) makes one intellectually quite versatile but often interested in too many things. This is the most rational of the mutable signs and is good for looking at a problem in a rational and objective manner. This position makes one think fast and in many directions. It also gives linguistic and often literary talents. This is one of the most versatile placements for writing and communication skills as long as there is discipline.
Venus in Gemini (Air sign) can make one quite fickle and changeable when it comes to love matters because they get bored very easily (unless there are aspects from planets like Saturn). They also need constant intellectual stimulation in love. However, this is an excellent position for communication skills (Shakespeare).
Virgo: The Earth triplicity shows in the way that these people approach any problem. They are practical, analytical and use their critical faculties to find the most efficient and logical solutions. They are the practical problem solvers who look at any issue from a realistic point of view, and they always gather all the facts first. Their methodical approach is most appreciated in the unions, accounting and the engineering world.
Although they have a natural interest in psychology and understanding of the human mind, they are better at research and theoretical application of psychology rather than actual involvement with people, because they are too critical of others and do not usually give any kind of encouragement. They are better at career guidance and curriculum selections etc. where they do not have to be as careful about being harsh in their analysis.
They make productive use of their knowledge because they are efficient in everything they do. They are usually precise, concise and logical in their writing. Although they can be witty, they may lack a sense of humor and have to learn not to be too finicky.
Mercury in Virgo (Earth sign) gives a very practical and down-to-earth way of thinking and anyone with this Mercury position gives very realistic advice. Except for the lack of enthusiasm, this placement is excellent for counseling and helping professions. It is also good for music, crafts and writing.
Venus in Virgo (Earth sign) is probably one of the most modest, selfless and caring signs but not the most passionate one. Although they often have a lot of knowledge about health, nutrition and physiology, it does not translate into their love life. This position often gives a degree of self-pity and poor-me attitude as well, which needs to be sublimated in compassion for others (saving professions) or through sad music.
Sagittarius: Ruled by Jupiter, this sign has a philosophical approach towards life. The Fire confidence, enthusiasm, optimism and energy are used to understand, guide, coach and positively motivate others and instill faith in them be appealing to some higher cause, philosophical ideals or Universal Justice.
They are excellent for people who feel insecure in life and also for those who need a good push. Unlike Gemini who wants to know everything just for the sake of knowing, Sagittarians always search for some kind of absolutes, and apply all the knowledge they acquire towards definite goals. They may search for “Truth” in books, religion, science or philosophy, or travel to distant lands in its quest.
They are excellent arbitrators and inspire others to patch their differences, to join groups and to develop a cooperative spirit for the good of all mankind. They also motivate others by projecting a very confident image, and by accepting new challenges with absolute faith in their own abilities. Sometimes they forget about other people’s limitations in their own enthusiasm. They are hardly ever wrong in their intuitive awareness of anyone’s abilities, but they may fail to realize that others may not live up to their own highest potential!
They are action-oriented and also have a thirst for mind expansion. They are usually very good educators and especially if someone else can establish the routine groundwork. A combination of Sagittarius and Pisces (or Moon/Neptune aspects) produces the mystics, healers, musicians, helpers and the saviors in our society.
Mercury in Sagittarius (Fire sign) makes one a positive thinker and gives them the ability to motivate others because of their enthusiasm, confidence and optimistic outlook. This placement often indicates oratory skills (Paul Getty and Dale Carnegie). Many philosophers and positive thinkers were born with this placement, but they need the discipline to accomplish something tangible.
Venus in Sagittarius (Fire sign) makes one quite attractive and somewhat flirtatious but in a sophisticated manner. These individuals are always after that which eludes capture! They are also drawn to those who are philosophical or travel a lot and who are from foreign lands and different cultures.
Pisces Being a Water sign, Pisces uses feelings and sensitivity to understand those who are suffering and helps them through inspiration and genuine concern. These are the people who are searching for emotional absolutes, and they portray their beautiful visions in art, music or other inspirational work. Pisces is good for the underprivileged and the handicapped, for small children or the elderly, and for dealing with those who are outcasts in our society. However, they can be both sympathetic but also very unsympathetic, especially to those who they are closest to! It is important for Pisces to work in a structured environment otherwise they become emotionally attached and lose all objectivity (unless they deal with strangers). They are too idealistic in their approach and tend to be emotionally biased.
Mercury in Pisces (Water sign) gives the ability to intuitively understand the problems of others without their saying a single word. It gives deep empathy for others and a comfortable sadness to the voice. However, they often have difficulty separating truth from fantasy and have a tendency to distort the truth in order to appreciate it. They use intuition and faith to provide humane solutions even if they are somewhat impractical!
Venus in Pisces (Water sign) makes one very sensitive, idealistic and unrealistic in all matters pertaining to love. Their need for romance often leads them to the most deceptive relations but their selection of the partner almost always involves either the most inspirational souls or the ones who have nothing but psychological problems (or a combination of both!).
