GaboGabriel García Márquez, the most popular Spanish-language writer since Cervantes, was born in a rainstorm reflective of the Sun, Mercury Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces. This is just one sign of someone who must have loved the ocean, the water, and was drawn to the inspirational sadness of others.
Sun Conjunct Jupiter in Pisces made him acutely sensitive to the needs and plight of the common people. Mercury close to Uranus in Pisces made him quite brilliant and erratic but also an inspired genius in the way he portrayed the emotions and got everyone involved in his novels. Moon in 12th gave him a powerful subconscious and Moon trine Neptune a visual sense of drama and the ability to communicate drawing visual analogies.
Mercury in Pisces carries a certain amount of comfortable sadness to it (tenor Beniamino Gigli and singer Celine Dion), which has the empathetic bond with the masses and feels their pathos in such a poetic way that it touches your soul.
Gabo, as they affectionately called him, was born with Neptune in Leo, the age of the golden movies and everyone from his age group has an air of regal bearing about them.
In 1970, he wrote The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor. Sailor references back to his Pisces planets and the shipwreck is his Mars opp Saturn, the major accident configuration in his chart! He was not motivated by material things or business at all and only wrote when he felt inspired to do so. The year he didn't write even one line, he himself said that he could have easily written but everyone would know that his heart was not in it.
The sign of Pisces is known for their humanitarian feelings and compassion for the common people but even though they are often talented, they are not motivated to do anything constructive with their gifts. The only way to motivate them is to let them know how much their talents would help the common person.
However, in his case he had an out of sign trine between Saturn and Mercury, which gave him the discipline to finish what he started and made him accomplish a lot as well.
Saturn in the philosophical sign of Sagittarius and Mercury in the sensitive and inspirational sign of Pisces made him a appear like good preacher. Although he was not one to seek publicity, but kings and the poor alike read his book all around the world in several languages.
Neptune in Leo gave him a flair for the glamorous world of film and he wrote some excellent scripts for movies as well. If you notice, he has a lot of planets in his 11th house which indicates his mission being service to the community and social reform.
The signs on the 11th house cusps perfectly describe what kind of activities were best suited for him. Aquarius and Pisces on the 11th reminds me of the internet and the Facebook which allows everybody to share as a global community. He had millions of followers who shared a common bond with each other through his book without even realizing that they were all part of his world. It is almost like a precurser to the internet.
Pisces represents the creative arts and the world of fantasy and magic. He founded and served as the executive director of the Film Institute in Havana, and was also the head of the Latin American Film Foundation (all Pisces themes). He wrote several movie scripts including El gallo de oro, Tiempo de morir, as well as the television (Aquarius) series Amores difíciles.
Eleventh house emphasis also shows up clearly as García Márquez often gave screenplay workshops to help the actors.
Mars opp Saturn is a very frustrating aspect to be born with and can give temper and often shows in heart attacks due to frustration rather than a weak heart.
In his case, Mars was in Gemini, which rules the lung and respiration. Mars opp Saturn was the lung susceptibility and even though he had cancer before, he actually died of pneumonia. This configuration also indicates a rebellious spirit and points to authority conflicts and legal hassles.
He was known to criticize his government as well as the US and in fact had major problems with immigration until Bill Clinton became the president, lifted the ban on Cuba and mentioned that "from the time I read One Hundred Years of Solitude more than 40 years ago, I was always amazed by his unique gifts of imagination, clarity of thought, and emotional honesty."
He added that Garcia Marquez "captured the pain and joy of our common humanity in settings both real and magical. I was honored to be his friend and to know his great heart and brilliant mind for more than 20 years."
Jupiter trined his Mercury exactly when he won the Nobel Prize for Literature on 8 December 1982. Jupiter Mercury is one of the best aspects for literature and contractual matters as well writing and publishing.
Jupiter also trined Uranus which is a major windfall opportunity from foreign countries. Jupiter moving towards his 8th house almost guaranteed the money he would have been given for writing more books and raising large sums of money.
Tell him yes. Even if you are dying of fear, even if you are sorry later, because whatever you do, you will be sorry all the rest of your life if you say no. ? Love in the Time of Cholera
There is no greater glory than to die for love. ? Love in the Time of Cholera
Think of love as a state of grace; not the means to anything but the alpha and omega, an end in itself. ? Love in the Time of Cholera
There is always something left to love. - One Hundred Years of Solitude
Incidentally, the epic 1967 novel One Hundred Years of Solitude sold more than 50 million copies in more than 25 languages.
When my clients ask me what kind of a profession they should go into, I don't just look at the 2nd house (how you make money), the 6th house (word environment) and the 10th house (career and what you are known as), but rather the essence of the whole chart and what mission the person is born for. In Gabriel García Márquez's case, almost every planet and aspect in his chart practically jumps out with its own place in his fullfilling his destiny.
Neptune in Leo show the charismatic age of the golden movies (his movie scripts). Uranus in Pisces (many musical geniuses were born with this including Mozart and the period between 11 March 2003 and 11 March 2011 which saw all the talented musicians around the world including little children on YouTube and X-Factor and ... Got Talent Shows).
Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces in 11th house, all pointing to his need to "save others", his active humanitarian work involving social reform and being a voice to the community and humanitarian work. Pisces planets also indicate the use of imagination and film to get his message across.
Even his Mars opp Saturn is important as it points to the conflict with authorities and those in power, which gave him the fighting spirit to write and defend the poor and the needy.
In other words, his chart clearly shows not only a very talented person who felt deeply for the underdog but fulfilled his mission of making a difference in the lives of the masses through his writing.
Now I just need to get hold of some of his books and at least read the first lines! It is amazing all this was just from his chart and I haven't even read any of his work but seeing how wonderful his chart really is, I am definitely going to read them now!
Thanks to one of my clients (whose name means prayer in Arabic (talk about a Piscean theme) and Moon in Gabriel Márquez's 9th house today (speaking to astrologers and those involved in philosophy of life) I felt inspired to write about him also. Isn't it amazing that his chart actually shows Moon in his 9th house today and a Sagittarius astrologer is writing about him, and no doubt millions have prayers and love in their heart for him.
The horoscope in fact belongs to the soul and continues on and on.
If one could immortalize a beautiful and very special moment in the history of this universe, that moment would no doubt include Gabriel García Márquez.
